In order to protect the polished surface of the tiles, the manufacturer applied a sheer coating of wax to the surface to avoid the friction and scratches during the packing, transportation and installation. The steps below could be adapted to clean off the wax from the tile surface. After the installation is completed and grouts are being applied to the joints of the tiles, installers can mix any unsanded grout with little water and polish the tiles with a commercial buffer with soft pad. It’s proper to apply the unsanded grout with the same color as the joints grout, or if the joints are buttered and the installation is done in mud (commonly used in marble and granite installation), the white or beige unsanded grout is recommended. After the buffer cleaning, the wax would be removed easily from the polished surface of the tiles. If a buffer is not available, hand-cleaning with a towel or rag using the same method is also helpful.
The only exception is black polished tile. Other than using unsanded grout, it is necessary to use a standard dish detergent or tile cleaner to polish the tiles with buffer with soft pad or hand towel.
In any case, NEVER use any sanded grout to joint, clean or polish the tiles. The sand particles in the sanded grout can scratch the polished surface, leave the residues and even damage the floors. |
